I Spy a Manatee 2.0.0

The ‘I Spy a Manatee’ mobile app has been developed with the aim of encouraging residents and visitors in Broward County to report manatee sightings within the County’s waterways. The app equips users with several features, including:

• Ability to capture a photo of the manatee or select an image from the device’s gallery.
• Reporting functionality to input key information such as the number of manatees spotted, their observed activity (e.g. feeding, traveling, resting), and the option to report any potential injuries or fatalities.
• Option for users to request follow-up communication upon submitting a sighting, although this step is voluntary.
• In cases where location services or mobile coverage are unavailable at the time of the sighting, users have a 48-hour window to log the sighting retrospectively.
• Access to a comprehensive map of the County’s waterways illustrating State-regulated manatee protection areas and boating safety zones. The map interface can also indicate the user's whereabouts along the waterway, even without active location services - by providing a valid address, users can still view relevant nearby locations.

The ‘I Spy a Manatee’ app is a joint initiative by Broward County’s Enterprise Technology Services Division and the Environmental Planning and Community Resilience Division.
